Back to Part Six

Scenarios:

When it comes to playing your games of High Crusade, we think you'll find them all the more enjoyable if you develop a little bit of background to the battle and a reason for it to be fought. Battles are very rarely fought just because two opposing forces just happened to turn up at the same place at the same time.

Doing this is known as creating a scenario, and what follows are some ideas for you to try out. You'll find more ideas just from watching films on TV (especially World War Two films and westerns - just think of the Shia Khan Orcs as Redskins!), reading books on real battles from history or those that appear in games magazines and journals.

Capture the Bridge - a small force of Crusaders capture a bridge just before a much larger force of Shia Khan reach it. They must hold out for a number of moves (throw a D6 to decide and add 3), before a large force of Free Companies reinforcements can relieve them.

Taking Ground - using the ambush rules, a force of Free Companies troops tries to take ground off Shia Khan defenders (the attackers need to outnumber the defenders about three or four to one).

Cover the Retreat - a small force of Shia Khan Drop Troops and Pioneers must hold back a much large force of Free Companies troops, whilst the rest of a previously defeated Shia Khan army retreats off the board.
