HIMMLER'S CRUSADE by Christopher Hale "In 1938, on the eve of war, a Nazi expedition set out through British India on a mission sponsored by SS Reichsführer Henrich Himmler himself. Led by two complex individuals - Ernst Schäfer, a swashbuckling naturalist for whom Nazism promised a short-cut to personal glory, and Bruno Beger, an anthhropologist who would take his racial theories to their logical conclusion at Auschwitz - its aim was to establish the origins of the Aryan races, high in the sacred mountains of Tibet.
Despite abundant documentation - diaries, letters, secret reports, photographs and a remarkable film - the full story of Schäfer's ill-fated expedition has, until now, never been told." This expedition forms part of the early history of the SS-Ahnenerbe and Abteilung 848 in Geheimkrieg and is a fascinating (and in parts disturbing) read. The myths around the Schäfer expedition are numerous and many the stuff of fortean tales. Hale does an exemplary job in ignoring the completely bizarre to recount a tale forgotten by most.

OpJB by Christopher Creighton "Millions of words have been written about the fate of Martin Bormann, Hitler's indispensable private secretary, and head of the Nazi Party Chancellery, who vanished at the end of the Second World War... Some historians claim he died near the Weidendamm Bridge, in the ruins of Berlin... others believe he escaped to South America, where he lived and died. In 1973 a court in Frankfurt pronounced him officially dead.
The truth is far more extraordinary, Christoper Creighton now reveals that in the final night and day of the wwar, as the Soviet armies closed in on the capital of the Third Reich, Bormann was lifted from Berlin by a Commando raiding party, led by Ian Flemming, creator of James Bond."
Written as a secret historty, the book does contain some rather far-fetched conspiracies from WWII, however it is an entertaining read and echoes the spirit of Geheimkrieg.

MYTHS AND LEGENDS OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR by James Hayward "As with the Great War, the Second World War gave rise to a rich crop of legends, many of which persist in the public consciousness even today. Some are well known, like the Dunkirk story, which portrayed the disaster of 1940 as a victory. Others are more obscure like the rumours of a German invasion attempt on the beaches of Norfolk in 1940, a myth that resurfaced in 1992. There are stories of the 'Manston Mutiny' during the Battle of Britain, espionage myths that surround the sinking of the battleship Royal Oak at Scapa Flow, the falsehood that no German spies in Britain operated outside MI5's double-cross system, and the real story behind 'the man who never was' (first revealed in 1996). Also covered are the Rudolf Hess story, myths about the nature and true effectiveness of the Resistance movements in Europe, and the true extent of Hitler's belief in astrology and his quest for the Holy Grail. Myths on land, sea and air are also discussed including the 'betrayal' at Dieppe, Nazi U-boat bases in Ireland. Weaving his narrative around a wide range of contemporary documentary sources, James Hayward presents an objective and rigorous analysis of the main myths, legends and popular falsehoods of the Second World War. The result is a new and refreshing perspective on the popular image of the Second World War." What can we add? Essential reading....

REICH OF THE BLACK SUN by Joesph P. Farrell "Why were the Allies worried about an atom bomb attack by the Germans in 1944? Why did the Soviets threaten to use poison gas against the Germans? Why did Hitler in 1945 insist that holding Prague could win the war for the Third Reich? Why did US General George Patton's Third Army race for the Skoda works at Pilsen in Czechoslovakia instead of Berlin? Why did the US Army not test the uranium atom bomb it dropped on Hiroshima? Why did the Luftwaffe fly a non-stop round trip mission to within twenty miles of New York City in 1944? This book takes the reader on a scientific-historical journey in order to answer these questions. Arguing that Nazi Germany actually won the race for the atom bomb in late 1944, the book then goes on to explore the even more secretive research the Nazis were conducting into the occult, alternative physics and new energy sources. The book concludes with a fresh look at the Nazi Legend of the UFO mystery by examining the Roswell Majestic-12 documents and the Kecksburg crash in the light of parallels with some of the super-secret black projects being run by the SS. This book is must-reading for the researcher interested in alternative history, science, or UFOs." Secret Nazi weapons? Allied cover-ups after the war? It's Geheimkrieg....

THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE - BRITAIN'S UNTOLD STORY by Charles Whiting "The Battle of the Bulge, fought in the snows of the Ardennes forests in December 1944 and January 1945, was the greatest land battle waged by the US Army in the twentieth century. Official history remembers the victory as a solely American triumph, but Charles Whiting uncovers fresh new evidence to the contrary. For political reasons, no mention was ever made of the crucial British involvement in this battle... The British role in the Battle of the Bulge simply does not exist on paper."
For anyone who doesn't believe in the surpression of history in WWII. The incredible story of the 2,500 casualties suffered by the British XXX Corps in the 'American' victory in the Ardennes. Simply shocking....

MOST SECRET WAR by R. V. Jones "This text is Jones's account of his part in British Scientific Intelligence between 1939 and 1949. It was his responsibility to anticipate German applications of science to warfare, so that their new weapons could be countered before they were used. Much of his work had to do with radio navigation, as in the Battle of the Beams, with radar, as in the Allied Bomber Offensive and in the preparations for D-Day and in the war at sea. He was also in charge of intelligence against the V-1 (flying bomb) and the V-2 (rocket) retaliation weapons and, although the Germans were some distance behind from success, against their nuclear developments."
A fascinating, declassified, account of secret British scientific work carried out during the Second World War and beyond....

BERLIN - THE DOWNFALL 1945 by Anthony Beevor "The advance on Berlin - it was to be the largest battle in history - began at exactly 4am on 16 April, 1945. Along the Oder Neisse front, two and a half million Soviet troops attacked one million Germans. The panic this induced in the German civilian population is easy to imagine. Hitler had sworn that Germany would never be invaded, yet now overwhelming Soviet armies were advancing on Berlin. Hitler, ensconced deep in his concrete bunker, could only scream at his military staff, denouncing the cowardice of the Wehrmacht. He had become convinced that Germany's defeat proved that its people were not worthy of him - that they deserved to die. With many a score to settle from the German invasion of Russia in 1941, the battle was one of the most terrifying examples of fire and sword recorded, with mass rape, murder, pillage and destruction. Men, women and children suffered to the end from folly, cruelty and the naked exercise of power on a massive scale.."
Whilst Geheimkrieg concentrates on Abteilung 848's campaigns on the western front (you'll have to wait for Geheimkrieg: Ost in 2006 for the Eastern Front), this book is a quality read of the last months of the war in the east and the horror that unfolded as the Red Army remorsesly ground its way into the capital of the Thousand Year Reich.
