Darke Lands is a set of colonial warfare rules set in a fantasy realm written by Steve Blease, currently undergoing development.
Darke Lands is being designed to be either a solo or multi-player game, with players taking command of the colonial forces in the far flung continent of Umbongodwongoland, the natives being controlled by reaction tables. As well as including Orc redcoats versus Zulu Halflings, many other fantasy races will be included in the game based on historical parallels...
A supporting range of miniatures will be released as well as the rules, some of which are show below...
DARKE LANDS MINIATURES:

Orc Line Infantry 28mm scale orc line infantry based on colonial British infantry of the late 19th century. Their principle enemy in the game will be the Halfling Zulus. Aside from the two rifles shown here, there will be a sergeant and officer figures. There will probably two packs released, one of four infantry with duplicates of the two figures here and one command pack of the two here, the officer and the sergeant. |

Zulu Halflings 28mm scale zulu halflings from Southern Umbongodwongoland. The figures here were sculpted by Richard Ansell and will come complete with shields, assegais and knoberries. Pack composition is undecided but they are likely to be be ten to a pack. Richard has also sculpted some orc line that came with the halflings, unfortunately don't fit in height wise with ours, however they may make an appearance as Mountain Orcs as they are very nice figures... |

Gnome Bores 28mm scale gnome (bore) settlers from Southern Umbongodwongoland, enemies of orcs, zulus and pretty much everyone else... Inspired by Danny O'Hara's gnomes on his Weird Wars pages, these gnome settlers are a bit weird (and boring...), with some deep held religious belief in not cutting their beards. This does make them look like a cross between 'Cousin It' from The Addams Family and ZZ Top but they are fun. Not sure on how they will be packaged yet... |

Gnome Foreign Legion 28mm scale gnome legionnaires fighting battles in The Great Sand Desert of Northern Umbongodwongoland against the infamous desert rats! These miniatures are taken straight from the Panzerfäuste miniatures line and can be painted in the French 1920's style uniform (as shown here) or the more traditional 19th century blue coat, white trousers. |

Desert Rat 28mm scale turaeg style rat. Inspired by a terrible pun, the desret rats will be useful miniatures for both Darke Lands and the desert war in Panzerfäuste. Need to sculpt a few more though... |

Dwarf Schutzetruppen 28mm scale dwarves in C19th German colonial infantry uniforms. The officer is one of my favourite miniatures we've done and I can't wait to get him cast and painted up. The dwarves have yet to find their own dedicated native enemy, though we're leaning towards Dahomey style elf amazons are favourite - obviously done in a non-exploitative way ;-) Of course being dwarves, there is no reason why they can't be fighting anyone else, given their temprement! |
These miniatures are just some conversions of the Darke Lands orc line infantry into Victorian period home service style uniforms. I have no idea whether we'll do anything much with them, whether to release them as part of the Darke Lands or Panzerfäuste ranges, or pursue the idea further with picklehaube helmeted dwarves etc and a supporting game...

Orc Line Infantry 28mm scale orc line infantry based on Home Service British infantry of the late 19th century. They have been converted by addding the full kit back packs, blanket rolls and adding spiked and badges to the helmets. |

Orc Guard Infantry 28mm scale orc guards based on Victorian Home Service uniforms. Inspired by Tommy Boyd's love of the British Guards regiments, I've added bearskins to these miniatures. They will need full kit adding as well. |
